ROYAL INSTITUTE OF PAINTERS IN WATER COLOURS
The Russell Gallery near Putney Bridge, London
The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours exhibition at this highly respected London gallery took place in November.
The gallery, situated near Putney Bridge, had originally planned an exhibition by a small selection of invited members only. However, after viewing the superb 197th Annual at the Mall Galleries, Sarah Russell, the owner, decided to open the exhibition to all members; everyone being asked to provide two paintings each.
The gallery specialises in oil paintings with the occasional foray into the worlds of acrylic and tempera so this exhibition was seen as testing the water, so to speak - for the first time showcasing an exclusively watercolour exhibition. And it worked! The interest was gratifyingly high and it seems very likely that there will be more exhibitions by RI members in this excellent venue.
