The RI at Alresford

The Alresford Gallery sits comfortably in picturesque West Street in the pleasant Georgian country town of Alresford in Hampshire. Established several years ago by the late Brian Knowler RI and Kerrie Cunningham, who continues run this highly successful gallery, its exhibitions in warm, intimate and welcoming surroundings attract visitors from all over the world.

The Gallery juggles solo exhibitions by the likes of Leslie Worth, Moira Huntley and Tom Coates with group shows including the Pastel Society, NEAC and this year, for the first time, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.

Beautiful and Impressive Presentation

The preview of the RI show was held on a bright sunny Sunday in May. Many people attended including the President and several local members. The selection of work was beautifully and thoughtfully hung by Kerrie and her team and the attending members all agreed that it was an impressive presentation for the RI.

First Time

The wide variety of styles within the watercolour medium surprised many visitors as did the interpretation of "water based" in a number of paintings. The design element in a lot of work was remarked upon and, as always, there were some who discovered the RI for the first time.

All in all a great success.
